Fibre Art Installation -Personal Project - Van Cabin Roof.

This project was over 12 months in the making! There was quite a bit of work involved in removing the cargo barrier in the van, and opening up the bulkhead area. The main living space of the van needed a kitchen storage space, which then provided me with a nice flat ‘ceiling’ to work with inside the cabin area. It was lined with automotive carpet, and then I made a huge sheet of felt that was anchored to the carpet. The felt itself is supposed to give the impression of looking up through a canopy of trees, with lots of open sky space, but with random branches, and blotches of greenish out-of-focus looking foliage.

Many, MANY flowers and leaves were wet-felted, hand sculpted and stitched together, then individually stitched to the felt roof. I also added some fairy lights and a felted bowl, and a few other embellishments, and some netting. To finish, I covered the “wall” behind the seats with a rich green velvet, I am in love with this space, and I use the front of the van for filming, as one of my art studios, and an office space. I love driving around surrounded in my fibre art!

It’s not an easy space to get good photos in, and the glare off the glass was mildly frustrating; but I hope you enjoy the photos!
